Fukunoyu is the only onsen or hot spring with high alkaline water of ph10 in the Tohoku region. The water has been gushed out from a well that the president of this onsen dug with the aim of melting snow on the ground with the well water. This onsen has been quite popular thanks to its unique water quality, attracting 150 thousand people for 6 years since its opening. Fruit smoothie using the locally grown watermelon is also popular.
